Be sure and ask about senior discounts at restaurants, hotels/motels, cruise lines, grocery stores and anyplace else you spend your money, many are not advertised publicly. Below are a few of the possible discounts, please let us know if you find others.
Keep in mind that not all locations offer the same discount, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
I have not utilized most of these possible locations/discounts, so please use due diligence to check them out.

Entertainment
- AMC Theatres – AMC Theatres offers discounted ticket prices to customers with valid photo id (60+)
- Landmark Theatres – Landmark Theatres has 50 locations nationwide and offers senior discount pricing at most of them. To check for senior pricing you click on your desired showtime and you are taken to a pricing page
- Marcus Theatres – Marcus Theatres offers a “Young at Heart” special for those 60+. Every Friday for any show that starts before 5:30 PM – $6.00. Additional charge for 3D, 4DX, UltraScreen DLX, SuperScreen DLX and IMAX.
- Regal Entertainment Group – Regal Entertainment Group offers up to 30% discount off the regular adult ticket price for ages 60+ – check your local theatre
- Showcase Cinemas – Showcase Cinemas offers “Senior Wednesdays”. Discounted admission is $7.50 and gets popcorn and soda for $4.50 (60+)
Groceries
- Bi-Lo – 5% off every Wednesday (60+)
- Compare Foods Supermarket – 10% off every Wednesday (60+)
- Fred Meyer – 10% senior discount on the first Tuesday of every month
- Fry’s Foods – 10% discount on the first Wednesday of every month to all seniors with VIP card
- Harris Teeter – 5% every Thursday when you use your VIC card (60+)
- Hy-Vee – depending on location will usually offer a 5% discount on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (some stores set age to 65+)
- Kroger – 10% off, varies by location
- Piggly Wiggly – varying discounts at participating locations
Health
- AARP prescription savings – members save an average of 61% on FDA-approved prescriptions NOT covered by insurance
- Atera Spas – offers special prices on some products for seniors.
- RiteAid – offers a wellness 65+ program for seniors that includes a 20% off of purchases on the first Wednesday of each month. The program also includes a free consultation with a pharmacist
- RxFreeCard – includes discounts on prescriptions for seniors
- Walgreens – up to 20% on “Seniors” Day” – once a month for Rewards card members (55+) in-store or 10% online
Retail
- Ace Hardware – offers 10% senior discount. varies by location, so check your local Ace Hardware to see if offered
- Goodwill – 10% off one day a week, varies by location, check with your local Goodwill (60+)
- Habitat for Humanity Restore – 20% off on Thursday at select locations (55+)
- Jiffy Lube – 10% discount for age 55 and over. Check your local Jiffy Lube for details
- Â Kohl’s – 15% off (60+Marshalls and Ross – 10% discount for seniors, the exact age is determined by each store, check for discount days
- Lens Crafters – AARP members get $74 off a single vision complete pair, $115 off a multi-focal complete pair, or 25% off a transitions upgrade with the purchase of a complete pair
- Michael’s – 10% off your entire purchase every day, some exclusions apply, available in-store only (55+)
- Pep Boys – 10% discount for seniors 55+, check your local store for details
- Ross Stores – 10% off every Tuesday (55+)
- UPS Store – AARP members can save 15% off eligible products and services and 5% off domestic and international UPS shipping services. Varies by location
Restaurants
A lot of restaurants offer a senior or military discount that is not advertised. It is always recommended to ask – all they can do is say no. The age varies by the restaurant on the following, so you will need to double-check.
- Applebees – 10% discount
- Burger King – 10% discount and discounts on some drink items
- Denny’s – senior menu with discounted prices
- Golden Corral – discounted menu prices for 60+
- IHOP – senior menu and 10% discount (not sure if the 10% is available at all locations)
- Outback Steakhouse – 10% discount for AARP members
- Sonic – 10% discount
- Subway – 10% discount
- Wendy’s – free drink – 10% at some locations
- White Castle – 10% discount for 55+
Telephone
Some of the large phone companies offer special discounts to senior citizens and these discounts may add up quickly – be sure to check with your carrier to see if they offer any senior citizen plans.
- AT&T – AT&T offers a special Senior Nation Plan for account holders 65 or older for $29.99/mo. It has 200 Anytime Minutes, Mobile to Mobile Minutes, and Nights and weekends, without roaming and long-distance charges. See if it is available in your area.
- Verizon Wireless: Verizon Wireless offers a special 55 plus nationwide unlimited talk and text plan to customers who are 55 or older. Check to see if your location offers this with Verizon.
- Consumer Cellular: Consumer Cellular offers AARP members who are 50 or older exclusive savings on monthly service charges in addition to discounts on accessories. Check with them and/or AARP.
Travel

- Avis –Â up to 30% off base rates when renting from participating locations for AARP Members
- Best Western – up to 15% for age55+
